I began working in glass in 2007 and haven’t gotten bored yet! That’s exactly what has happened over the years with my other creative endeavors. My husband says that he’s glad that I haven’t changed husbands as often as I changed hobbies. That’s a sweet thing to say.
I’d never considered myself an artist until people wanted to purchase the designs I created. I couldn’t believe that I was going to have the opportunity to do something I really loved to do and call it work. I started working in my basement in the corner of one room. I presently have taken over most of the basement. I have added plumbing, a wood working room, painted walls and ceilings, hung doors, built storage and display areas and have a lovely place for my customers to come and shop. And now I have a place where I can teach others my love for stained glass.
When I started Imagery Limited, I made clocks and candle holders. They weren’t the traditional designs that I had seen done with stained glass but I thought I could make it work once I learned to solder. I just followed my interests. They were all different and that’s the way I liked it. I didn’t really want to create the same thing twice. I gained knowledge about the craft and courage to try new things over time. My work in mosaics started because I couldn’t throw away my glass scraps. I had to find something to do with them. In the beginning most of my work was abstract and then I got a requests for things I’d never tried, children’s art reproduced in glass, portraits in glass, and the list goes on. I made my first window and after it was installed, I was in disbelief. I never imagined I would have the opportunity to do this.
When I am not making glass I enjoy writing and reading. I love to write children’s stories, and I’m presently working on my first book. My many interests include forensics, true crime, kayaking, growing orchids, and music. I am a mother of four daughters and a grandmother of three girls and one boy. You can see two of my granddaughters in the mosaic above. Life is good! And I am grateful.
