Black Friday
Black Friday Buying
Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 07:28AM
Just two more days until the kick-off of the Christmas buying season. Looking for a unique, handmade gift that your family and friends will enjoy long after the Christmas season? Each one of my designs is one-of-a-kind and I have something for everyone. Browse the designs and send me an email with your selections. I'll send you a Paypal invoice and get your order packed up for early delivery. I am offering complimentary gift wrap if you would like. Just let me know. I also have gift certificates available.
Avoid the crowds and shop on line! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
It just hit me after I posted. Why don't I add Paypal to my site? So I decided it was time. It will take me a few days, but if you see the "add to cart" button on some items, they are ready to purchase without you having to contact me. Thanks for your patience!
Black Friday Procrastination Promotes Creativity
Monday, November 24, 2008 at 07:11AM I have a theory that work usually stretches to the time I allot for it. That one thing I am hopeful about getting to, doesn't get any attention because of this. So my plan each day is to choose to work on the project I can't put off any longer. Some might call that procrastination but it works for me. It actually makes me creative.
When I have little or no time pressure, I tend to approach things in the same way I did it last time. When I have time pressure, it makes me rethink the old method to see if it works best and that usually results in creativity. My Etsy shop was about to close because I hadn't listed anything in a long time because I had chosen to work on other things. I was forced to list to keep it up and running and this time I made changes that you might not notice but made things go much smoother for me. It made it fun and fun is always good!
I have a mess in my studio I've been practicing procrastination on. I have to clean it if I am going to get any work done this week. Think I will find any creative fun ways to clean? Sure. I'll only plan to clean for an hour and hope that my theory is true!
A Bit of Industry News
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 12:02AM Artisans who want to purchase stained glass supplies locally, don't have a lot of suppliers to choose from. Hobby Lobby carries minimal stained glass and tools for hobbyists, and anybody who needs supplies is grateful they do. But I have good news for those on the hunt. I found a really great store on a drive through Durham that you should know about. Carolina Stained Glass has a nice selection of glass and lots of tools to put on your Christmas wish list. Enjoy!
A Matter of Perspective
Monday, November 17, 2008 at 12:03AM
When I teach students to cut glass, I explain that they should score the sheet on the smoothest side. The artist judges the best side to use for the project they are working on. It is a matter of perspective, but there is not a right or wrong side to glass even though they are different. This is often true in other areas of our lives.
When someone tackles a problem differently than I would, it doesn't mean that I am right and that they are wrong. It may simply mean we look at the problem from different angles and experiences. There is often a lot to learn from the perspective of others. There is a verse in Proverbs that speaks to this. "The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him." (Pr. 18:17) It's a good perspective to have!
faith 10 Reasons to do it again!
Monday, November 10, 2008 at 12:02AM
Those Creative Women launched their first event this past weekend and it was the best show ever! Thanks to all of you who came and supported us. By the look of the turnout, we are going to have to do it again. Here are 10 reasons why I want to do it again:
- The talented tag-a-long little sister would be there.
- To watch Kate use her scone self-control.
- I'll know it's the Nester's birthday and won't have to be belated in my wishing!
- Lauren will be an old married woman by then.
- A sunny room is the best place ever for my glass.
- To see if Melody's designs are retired collector pieces yet.
- Cause Kendra might make granola again.
- I have to design a new jewelry tree for all of you who wanted to use my Christmas trees for that purpose.
- Because of the old friends I get to visit with...
- And the new friends I get to make!
Let us hear your reasons if you want us to do it again!
